Trying to Prevent Earth From Becoming The New Mars - Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013) Script

EXT. GOTHAM CITY -- DAY

High above the waterfall entrance to THE BATCAVE, SUPERMAN HOVERS in the clouds, scanning the skies around him. 

SUPERMAN: 
J'onn. 
 
MARTIAN MANHUNTER: (O.S)
Clark. 
 

Superman turns to see MARTIAN MANHUNTER MATERIALISE behind him. The Martian looks defiant, unimpressed by the actions of his former teammates. 

 

MARTIAN MANHUNTER: (cont'd)

Batman has left the cave. He's long gone. 

 

SUPERMAN: (Reproached)

Why are you working with him? Why are you working against me?

 

MARTIAN MANHUNTER:

Because of what you will become. 

 

SUPERMAN: (Sternly)

And what is that? 

 

MARTIAN MANHUNTER:

I'm going to show you something. I want you to feel something.

 

Martian Manhunter's red eyes (now glowing) NARROW. Superman lets out a surprised GROAN as he feels J'onn's telepathic powers inside his head. 

 

SUPERMAN: 

(Panting slightly)

What is this?

 

MARTIAN MANHUNTER: (V.O)

This is what it feels like. When your planet is overrun. When you are a part of a weaker species that is dominated by a stronger one. 

Before Superman's eyes, Manhunter's darkest day plays out before his eyes. He can only watch on as J'onn narrates the scene, voice heavy with emotion. 

 

GREEN MARTIANS are forced to STAND in a SILENT, fearful line, as WHITE MARTIANS GRAB and SNATCH selected members out of the group. As one of the White Martians EDGES closer, J'onn WRAPS his arm tightly around his wife, M'YRI'AH and daughter, K'HYM. 

 

MARTIAN MANHUNTER: (V.O cont'd)

This is what it feels like to be ruled. 

 

The White Martian stops at the family, eyeing them up. With a growl, they YANK K'hym from her father's grasp by her shoulder and arm. J'onn tries to fight back but is CAUGHT in a HEADLOCK by a second White Martian. The White Martian restraining J'onn gives a cruel smirk as his captive breathlessly struggles and pleads. 

 

MARTIAN MANHUNTER: (V.O cont'd)

This is what it feels like to be helpless.

 

K'hym is KNOCKED to the floor in the confusion. She SCREAMS for her parents. However, they are unable to save the young girl as she is DRAGGED away. Her captor joins a throng of other White Martians and their prisoners. 

 

All M'yri'ah and J'onn can do is cry and beg as their daughter's howling grows fainter. The White Martian, still holding J'onn secure, chuckles in his ear. 

 

MARTIAN MANHUNTER: (V.O cont'd)

You know this feeling. 

 

The image fades away, to be replaced by one of Superman's own memories. Just as dark. Just as painful, in the empty vacuum of space. 

 

Superman stares into the terrified, wide eyes of LOIS LANE, floating limply in his hands; in the exact same spot where DOOMSDAY had been desperately trying to wrestle free from the Kryptonian's grip just moments earlier. 

 

His mouth HANGS open as he realises that he had just KILLED the love of his life and their unborn child.
